Copy and Paste, is to move text or a file from one location to another without having to type it by hand.
Start by holding your mouse pointer at the beginning of the text you want to copy . Hold the left mouse button down and slide the pointer across the sentence to highlight it.
Practice highlighting the text on this page. Don't be afraid to try, you cant do any harm. Once you have the text you want to copy highlighted, right click on it . A small window will open from this window, choose Copy. Now go to the place you want to place the text and left click once to get a flashing cursor. What is a virus?
A virus is a program that infects a computer by attaching itself to another program, and reproducing itself when that program is started. A computer can become infected by files downloaded through the Internet, most commonly in email. Believe it or not
viruses are also found on software CDs and floppy disks.
Some viruses are only pranks, and perform harmless actions like displaying a screen with a joke message on it. Others can destroy files or wipe out your whole hard drive, (not something you want to happen).
To avoid damage from viruses, 1. always have virus protection software installed on your computer. 2. Always update your virus software with
the latest virus protection files. 3. scan all files downloaded or received through email, and scan all CDs and floppy disks before installing them!
Norton AntiVirus is one of the best virus protection software i have seen.

What is a firewall?
This is a basic explanation of a firewall for the average PC user.
A firewall is hardware or software that protects a computer from intruders, such as hackers or script kiddies from gaining access
(breaking into your computer) while you are connected to the internet.
And what is a hacker or script kiddie?
Lets just say a hacker is a person with a high degree of technical knowledge,
enabling him or her to gain access to information on your computer over the internet.
A script kiddie is usually a young person running a program that allows him or her to
basically do what a hacker might do.
What might a hacker be able to do to my computer?
A hacker can do just about anything he wants with your computer.
(1) steal personal information (He can see anything you have on your
computer)
(2) Store information on your computer
(3) Change settings ( They can completely destroy your system if they choose to.
(4)A hacker can do just about as much if not more then you can do with your
computer!!!!!
Do you think i need a firewall?
The answer is YES!!!
To learn more and to look at one of the best firewalls i have found ,check out
Zone Alarm.
Another great security site is grc.com
If you are surfing around the internet, and you find yourself on a page of a site with no home button or no other links to any other pages in that site, but would like to see more of that site, try this.
Look up at your location bar ( The white box in your browser that shows the address of the site or page that you are viewing) and you should see something that looks like one of the URL's
below .
http://www.virtualgravy.com/gravytech.htm#Address or URL Trick
http://www.virtualgravy.com/gravytech.htm
If you look there now , it should look like one of the above examples . Now just click at the end of the address so that you get a blinking cursor, and backspace to the first forward slash, then hit enter on your keyboard. In this example you will go to the Virtual Gravy home page.
Stop Programs from Starting Automatically
Do you have a program that starts automatically and you wish it didn't? I have had a few from time to time that start up as soon as the computer is turned on. Instant Messenger, Real Player, and a few others.
There is an easy fix, but before I tell you about it, let me warn you: don't mess with things in here that you don't know anything about or you could mess up your computer! Having said that, go to your Start Button and click the Run command. In the text input box type "msconfig" without the quotes, then click ok. When the System Configuration Utility opens click the StartUp tab. Uncheck the programs that you don't want to start automatically then click apply. Just don't uncheck things like ScanRegistry and things you don't understand or you may be sorry. Just use it for non-essential things like the ones I mentioned above.
The next time you turn on your computer the troublesome application won't start automatically. If you want you can always go back and recheck the application.
Besides stopping that annoying program from starting on boot up, your computer will boot faster and have more memory available. The downside is that the programs you uncheck will take a few seconds longer to start when you do want to use them.
What does the "desktop resolutions" refer to? Resolution normally refers to the desktop size. This setting has several predetermined values such as 640x480, 800x600 and so on. The 640 refers to the number of pixels across the monitor screen. The 480 refers to the number of pixels from top to bottom on the monitor screen. As the numbers get larger, the result is that everything on the screen gets smaller. Some people prefer smaller windows and print so they can get more on the screen. Others prefer the larger windows and print because it's easier to read. Most people using a 14-inch monitor usually use the largest print size 640x480. Some people with a 15-inch monitor prefer 800x600. It's all personal preference. To change the desktop setting, click the Start button then choose Settings...Control Panel. Double-click the Display icon, then click the Settings tab.You can change the desktop setting here
Eject your CD-ROM: Platform: Windows 95/98/NT
You can eject your CD-ROM by right clicking on the CD-ROM icon in My Computer and select Eject from the context menu. If your CD-ROM is open, this will close it.
Windows 95/98/NT You can use a little-known utility called WinIPConfig to see information about your TCP/IP network settings. From the Start Menu, press Run, type WINIPCFG, and click OK.
While connected to the internet via dialup or in a networked environment, open a DOS window, and at the DOS prompt type "ping"and the internet address you wish to check. ie. ping www.windows95.com. Windows95 will tell you how fast the connection is to the address given.
